Works in Progress; Finding motivation to knit

Wynnafred Bonde about me test knitting

If you are new, Welcome! And Happy International Women's Day to all women.

To any of you who have been here for a little while, you might know that I have quite a few works in progress (WIPs) going at once. So, how do I stay on top of finishing and working through my WIP pile. The long and the short of it is that I try to find a project that calls to me, and I work on it in the moment. Currently, I have Vanilla Twist Socks, Sunshine Stripe Socks, Vanilla Socks (ripped out and am reworking them), an unnamed summer tank pattern, Braven and Autumn Tides all on the needles.

It is a little unusual that I have so many projects on the needles at once, since I try to keep it to around 3 WIPs. Vanilla Twist is a test knit for the designer and I am super excited for how they are working up. Two are designs that I am working on for the shop, the unnamed summer tank and the Sunshine Striped Socks. The Vanilla socks that I had finished didn't fit the way I liked and instead of leaving them to never get worn I ripped them out and brought them on a long car ride. Lastly, Braven and Autumn Tides are both patterns by Tyne Swedish who designs beautiful shawls, though some of the more complex parts I struggle with a little. If you have a chance and want to see some beautiful work, I will leave her Instagram handle below!

Really I try to keep something simple in my WIPs so that when I need to turn my brain off and knit while watching something I can. Or if I need to abruptly put it down because M is getting into something. I normally have at least one design, or something to make for someone else in my WIPs. And then I have something hard or fun, or even better both! I use progress keepers to help me see what progress I have made in whatever time I have had to knit during the week. But I find it is also important that I take a day off to do other crafts, or to rest and go hiking every once in a while so that I can take a breath and a break. At the end of the day, though I also do this for work, it is a hobby and something I should enjoy. Plus nothing is worth breaking your mental health over.

Take the time that you need to feel in spired to work on your projects again. Talk to you soon, Happy Knitting.
